RE: World Record BASE Jump !

That's actually pretty cool! I wouldn't do it, but what an adventure. Probably took a few years off their lives just from stress and high heart rate. Hopefully they will live a long life and not kill themselves in a base jump.

RE: Toyota Matrix

I have a Vibe and am very pleased. Warm climate in S.F., CA. Pretty much use it in the city, only 31K mi (2005) but really am happy w/ it. Only thing I had to replace was brake pads at about 24K which seemed a little early. And I don't drive THAT hard... Shop said they were poor quality, cheap shoes as made but replacements should last a long time.\ I also know a lot of people w/ Prius that are very happy w/ it. So, it is a matter of choice. And maybe where you get the best deal.

RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

And now for more city scenery. I tried to catch a sunrise over the Bay Bridge but it was too foggy. But I still got some interesting shots and a little color thru the clouds. First, the city skyline as the farmers' market was setting up. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8955_1.jpg Here comes the sun ? Not. Too much fog. But nice! http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8971_1.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8975_1.jpg Testing my closeup skills - dew on the railing of the pier. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8989_1.jpg Ferry Terminal and skyline just as the sun is peeking over the fog. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8982_1.jpg Early morning Tai Chi guy in front of the Embarcadero Buildings. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8992_1.jpg I think I'll have to get up early another morning when it's not so foggy. But this was fun!

Second visit to see my son and his son. Doesn't poor Dad look a little tired, and puzzled? Poor guy, he is ecstatic and sleep deprived all at once. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/Devon%20First%20Pics/IMG_8954_1.jpg

RE: Anyone in the Medicare Drug Supp."Donut Hole"??

Freeman - that is a pretty good Dr.! Most are not all bad, greedy, cold hearted, impersonal, impatient. Thank goodness.

RE: Anyone in the Medicare Drug Supp."Donut Hole"??

My MIL is in the donut hole for the 2nd yr. We do our best w/ a cooperative Dr. to get generics, but it still can get up there since she has 6 prescrips and about 1/2 of them don't have generic equivalents. You are just out of luck under the current system. If there are plans that pay those costs, I haven't found them. So far, she has the funds, but they're getting diminished.

RE: Michael Crichton author of Jurassic Park dies

He was an excellent writer of the fast paced, hold your attention, mystery based on science novel. I have read 4-5 of them. All good.

Yeah, Eric, S.F. is a pretty cool place for Halloween. It's an urban adult experience!

Voting and posting

Looks like any post that mentions voting, including something neutral like "I voted" will be zapped today. I've seen at least one closed and know of one zapped post (there were probably more). Come on moderators, if someone wants to describe their voting experience without discussing their choice or their politics, what's wrong w/ that? I voted early by mail. Easy.

RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

Some belated Halloween pics. I went out in the street in my neighborhood about 9 PM and these are the folks I found. Nothing special technically, but interesting people. And I didn't even find the most ghoulish, the most scantily dressed, any themed groups (like a group last year pushing a hospital bed with a "victim" in it who were all dressed like ER people w/ lots of blood on them). http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8840_1.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8827_1.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8846_1.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8859_1.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8860_1.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8857_1.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8862_1.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/RV%20Net/IMG_8844_1.jpg I did learn a little more about action night shots w/ my new camera. It is fast, good in low light (of course most of these were flash), and I'm loving it. I need more time to practice!

RE: Driveway for RV?

Whoever buys that better check their vehicle before closing! I knew someone who bought a nice (expensive) house then had to spend about $4000 modifying the driveway 'cuz they didn't test their Porche before buying to see if it cleared properly. :o

My turn for Grandpa-hood. This is my son's first born son, and our first GC, so it is all new to me. This is Devon at 12 hrs. old. Not too bad for a newborn. Some can be pretty bruised and scrunched up at first. He was almost born on Halloween, but decided to put it off until Nov. 1. I guess I'll be doing more baby pics again.... http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc303/mkeenansf/Devon%20First%20Pics/IMG_8908-1.jpg

RE: O'Keeffe update

Thanks, Diane. I agree that ID is really beautiful. I could live there (thought about it, even). We will definitely haul our 5er up there again, soon. If your mom's not there when it's cold, that makes sense. Will you travel again in winter, then? Keep up the good work!

RE: Hubble Repair

Nasa's whole budget is something like .3% (point 3%) of the entire federal budget. Think about what it has produced for the country and its citizens over the years. I'd say it's well worth it. And they have been cut numerous times already. I LIKE science. (Can you tell?).

RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

Fantastic, Eric. I am going to learn to do that when I really retire (a year or two??). I can barely use the surface of Elements much less PS. But I will learn!

RE: O'Keeffe update

I know Idaho is beautiful, but why did you pick a winter spot when you are about to assist your mom who is from So. CA (I think)? We are in a different spot. We take care of my MIL but drag her with us on trips, walker and all. So far it works but she is getting slower. We plan a trip in Dec. so we'll see how much slower she has become. We are just finishing up a house remodel, still in S.F., where we will move w/ her so she won't have steps any more. There are ground level rooms and a bath for her as opposed to one flight of steps. We'll live upstairs. Hope to go out from there for 6-8 mos. / yr. in 3-4 longer adventures. But if she can't do it, we now have a good place w/ handicap access, shower bars, etc., to stay w/ her. You are to be congratulated on your willingness to help in a big way. It can be a sacrifice, but after all, they are our parents.

RE: Starting a business

The first thing to do is find out if there is a market for your type of consulting, where it is, who it is, and then if it seems viable, do an income and expense projection, and a marketing plan w/ a timeline. There is no point in organizing and getting permits if there is little or no biz for you. But if it looks good, then you can get organized, buy equipment, talk to an accnt., etc. and start soliciting clients.

RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

I love all the Canyonlands and Dead Horse pics. You were lucky to have such clear days! That is what is usually lacking at the Grand Canyon. I visited Arches, Canyonlands, Moab area, about 2 yrs. ago and loved biking there. Would love to go back for longer (and I will, soon) and hike as well as bike - but it has to be not too hot.
